Month: August 2006

  • We’re featured in an article this month!

  • Whoo-ee it was a blazing hot day on Linde & Brian’s special day! It fit the tropical theme perfectly. We had so much fun capturing their laid-back celebration. Who would’ve thought that the top of a library could be a great location for a wedding? Linde and her sisters look similar and they’re so pretty! They asked us to wear something tropical and this is what we came up with [matching was unintentional].

  • Chicago

It was hard to get a shot because there were so many photographers from the seminar surrounding the same model[s], but I was able to snap a few images.

Melissa [in the 2 images above] was the one who organized the seminar. She has great energy that compliments RenĂ© [her husband] and his gentle nature. They have a similar background as our company . . . RenĂ© photographed as a hobby and then after marriage, Melissa encouraged him to start a business and they work together as a team.

[below] We went to the Navy Pier on one of the evenings and I photographed a random couple watching the beautiful fireworks.

[below] I photographed Heather [one of the people I met at the seminar] in the women’s restroom of our hotel. You can get a good shot even in the most unlikely places – it’s all about the angle.

[below] Heather and I at dinner [photo by Bob Davis]

[below] Dawn & Bob Davis from la Storia foto invited me to dinner and I was so honored to get to know their family. They are so generous and they have two adorable children. They photographed Oprah’s ‘Legends’ Luncheon and Ball and Bob is part of the Canon Explorers of Light to name just a few of their amazing accomplishments [photo by Heather Houston].

[below] Went on an adventure to downtown Chicago, Millennium Park. These faces were quite interesting, bordering on freaky, but pretty cool. They stare, blink, smile, and shoot water out of their mouths.

[below] Introducing the 110-ton elliptical sculpture a.k.a. ‘The Bean’ and it’s many angles.

[below] The office building had particular rooms lit that spelled ‘RUN!’ – I wish I knew the meaning behind it.

I also walked along the Magnificent Mile where it’s a shopper’s paradise, but I was alone at night so I didn’t want to bust out the camera just in case.

[below] This is a non-Chicago shot. This was from our hotel room in New York the week prior. Basically, there were two large mirrors on opposite end of the walls and it created a multidimensional effect.

Traveling takes a toll, but it’s so fun to see new places.

Speaking of . . . we’re going to Hawaii at the end of next month! My hubby was going to surprise me for my birthday gift, but he revealed the surprise early because I was feeling burnt out and he wanted to give me something to look forward to. This is HUGE for me as it is something I only dreamed of! Thank you love for your thoughtfulness and much much gratitude to Rebecca & the Oh family for your generosity!

  • We will go to great lengths to get the shot. :)

Debbie happened to be with us at the shoot, and she captured this without us knowing. She also pointed out later that it was funny that everything just came natural. Hun said ‘I need a chair’ and I knew to be a ‘ladder’ right away. Haha!

  • “Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.” George Eastman

I love photography for all its worth, but the biggest reason I love it is because it is a constant reminder of my relationship with God. In photography, finding light is sometimes challenging but necessary. Same goes for life – finding light is sometimes challenging but necessary. The quote above can be applied to photography, but also to our own lives as we strive towards the light, not darkness.

I’m so grateful for my hubby who got me into photography. I tried to refuse it at first, and I definitely did not want to since it involved so much technical information that I did not care to learn, but he bought me a camera anyways. I’m also grateful to God for providing me with the opportunity to capture and view His creation in ways I never imagined. And now I look at the world in frames where I compose almost every moment or environment even without a camera.

  • Connie & Marshall  :  New York, New York

This lovely couple was so expressive and full of emotion as apparent in the images. The locale was Columbia University – a beautiful campus. A unique element of their wedding was that part of dinner was cooked right there on the spot. Marshall was so proud to tell me that his new wife planned everything from Mozambique, and indeed she did a wonderful job.

  • Quote of the week: “I assume before too long we’ll be naked on the plane - and that’s fine with me.” Tisha Presley in a CNN article.

Hun and I just got back from New York, and now I’m heading out solo to Chicago.

I’m known to be a troublemaker during security checks [not on purpose of course] . . . but without fail, they have to double-check my carry-on bags and/or pat me down. Since they just heightened security even more, I don’t know what to expect. :|

  • Jean & Peter  :  New York, New York

Jean & Peter were brought up from totally different backgrounds but love brought them together. They came up from Baltimore to New York to have their engagement session and we had a fun time. It was uncomfortable because of the hot and muggy weather, but you wouldn’t know that from seeing how relaxed they were.

  • Christine & Dominic

Christine and Dominic are such a gracious couple with beautiful matching smiles. You could tell by their interactions that they cared for each guest that attended their wedding. I saw Christine having personal, sit-down conversations on multiple occasions which is hard to do during your own wedding. They also accommodated for all three of us [the team] as guests which is so generous! A funny side moment was when one of the guests said, “This is where the sexy people are sitting,” referring to his table while looking at the seating chart.  Other happenings – the sister of the bride’s toast was so touching – she started crying, Christine started crying, and I couldn’t help but start crying. I looked around to see other snifflers as well. Unique elements of their wedding – Christine told me that Dom made the invitations, programs, and table cards – wow! The older generation were dancing machines – couldn’t get them off the dance floor [see example below].
