This is me when I was 4ish living in Korea. I would have never thought that over two decades later, this image would be so relevant to my life. I’m on the fence whether to have it in color or b|w. Color is the original and it’s fun, but b|w makes it look more vintage. Which do you like better?

Andrea and Drew’s special day in a Lake Las Vegas resort was the last in an intense three-weddings-in-a-row weekend for us, but our energy and spirit remained high as we knew we would spending time with an awesome couple. It wasn’t where one would think a typical Vegas wedding would be; it was away from all the flashy lights from The Strip and in a peaceful, serene area.

Everywhere you looked, it was beautiful. Above is where the ceremony was to be held.

[above] One of Andrea’s bridesmaids spent some time on the slot machines the night before in order to get a perfect 6 cents. A lucky sixpence in a bride’s shoe is a famous old good luck wedding tradition; placed in the bride’s shoe on her wedding day is a symbol of love, happiness and good luck.

It goes with this well-known saying: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a lucky sixpence in her shoe.

Some images of the preparation process below.

I think that brides should give their phone to someone else on their wedding day so they don’t have to answer calls, but Andrea was gracious and picked up every call which kept her constantly on the phone.

[above] Andrea handmade these beautiful lariat necklaces herself as a gift to her bridesmaids.

The ceremony was very short and sweet. Poor Drew had to be in his suit in the hot desert heat. For wedding parties, women are lucky during summers while men suffer, and men are lucky during winters while women suffer.

Some fun shots of the couple and their wedding party below.

Of course everywhere you go in Vegas, there are always slot machines around, like the one above.

[above] This was something unique that I’ve never seen at a wedding before. They had knickknacks for guests to enjoy during the reception. There were dance lights that happened to hit just the father’s face while trying on his goofy glasses. Her reaction = priceless.

They were easygoing and such a pleasant couple to be around. Every time you looked at them, they would have so much fun just being together.

[below] Some down time. Paul wanted to get in on the photography action too - he had previous experience as he took a b|w photography class in high school.

[below] Sometimes they get bored and trade instruments.

[below] Gotta look good before seeing the fans. ;) Lovely Leah took care of that department.

    [below] Show time!

[below] My favorite shot of the night.

[below] This woman is amazing! Irina is going into physical therapy but she has so many other gifts! She held the event together with her organization, hospitality, encouragement and prayers.

[below] Some of my BKPC ladies Allison, Jennifer & Genesis. I love BKPC so much! Not only is it my dad’s church, but it is also a church that is filled with incredible people. As an example, in almost any given situation, you will see the family at BKPC hard at work serving their hearts out without having to ask. Even at this event which they had no involvement in, I saw Allison helping stack chairs at the end.

[below] I recently started to get to know Leah, but I already love her to pieces! She is such a bundle of joy - so caring, so loving, so precious. She was the salesperson for the evening.

This concludes this portion of GH1: Behind the Music with King’s Fools. For more info, check them out at www.myspace.com/kingsfools.

  • Trick or Treat

Oh man, I’m not gonna lie – it’s been rough. Two weeks ago, I upchucked and then had a weird feeling in my stomach for a few days but ignored it thinking it was just the flu. I woke up the following Monday morning with a stomach ache which was a constant pain that progressively worsened throughout the day. Being stubborn and hating hospitals, I objected to Hun wanting to take me to the ER. I have a high pain tolerance but it got unbearable by the night’s end so I gave in. At the hospital, I asked the doctor if we could do this without involving any needles to no avail. He diagnosed me with Appendicitis and I was to receive a Laparascopic Appendectomy [I can barely pronounce it]. While they rolled me on my bed down to surgery, I had this unbelievable peace and calm come over me. Some might say it was the meds, but I was fully aware and awake and knew it was because I had so many people praying for me. To make light of things, I asked the Anesthesiologist if this was a trick or treat [since it was Halloween]. After surgery, my loving visitors told me I looked good, like I didn’t just go through surgery; even my nurses told me that right out of surgery. I felt pretty good too compared to the day before.

As I’ve been recovering at home, I didn’t realize post-op would be so hard and painful. I had envisioned coming back home and bouncing back to normalcy, but my pain medications didn’t have effect on me. Not only did I have physical pains, but my emotional pains of my brother came flooding. Sitting and laying, not being able to do things for my independent self brought me to tears as flashbacks of my ailing brother wouldn’t leave my mind as he was in my position for much much longer with even more discomfort and pain.

As I sit like a couch potato writing this post, I’m not looking for pity - just reflecting and sharing my experience. I am doing better and praying for an extra speedy recovery.

Some thoughts from this particular experience:

    - I am appendix-less but that’s okay because there is no known function of it.
    - I can’t wait ’til I don’t have to suppress my laugh anymore. Right now, I laugh like an alien.
    - How blessed are we that it didn’t happen on a wedding-scheduled weekend.
    - My hubby is awesome as always – it’s not easy being a caregiver.
    - I have a great support system of family and friends – even some clients sent care cards. Thank you for all your care and prayers! I don’t say that lightly.
    - No pain, no gain. I don’t know what the gain part is yet, but it will come. :)
    - God is good all the time.
