  • Happiness and The Blues

There’s a lot of junk on television right now, but there’s the occasional good stuff. I just watched 20/20, a report on ‘Happiness’, and I’m so ‘happy’ I did.

    To sum it up . . .

    50% genes
    10% life circumstances
    40% intention, attitude, outlook

These are the percentages that make up total happiness.

‘The Happiest Place on Earth’ is Denmark [contrary to popular belief that Disneyland is :) ].

This is pretty surprising because it is a country that is “cold, dreary, and unspectacular.”  And it also has “one of the highest taxes – up to 63% of one’s income.”

Some characteristics that make up Denmark:

    - People don’t choose careers based on income or status.  A banker, a garbage man, and an artist all get paid similar salaries.
    - They can all afford cars, but most choose bikes.
    - Vegetables are bought by the honor system.
    - Mothers leave babies unattended outside cafes.

Basically, it’s a society that trusts and doesn’t judge by status.

I think we could learn a lot from these Danes.

    So remember, intention, attitude, outlook.

On another note, today is a big day for our beloved Seahawks. They’re the underdogs, but I have faith that they can win. I’ll be proudly sportin’ this jersey that my Hunny got me. Go hawks!

Update: I know that they don’t blame the weather, but I can’t help but feel sorry for them because they’re not used to playing in the snow. Everytime they dropped the ball, my heart sank. We still love our Seahawks though. And I hope Holmgren doesn’t retire just yet.

  • Hi! Christina sent me a link to see the sneak peak of her wedding pix :) Hope you don’t mind~  Looked at your older entries. Really, love the photos! That one “most beautiful wedding dress” is really gorgeous. Wow… – Hannah

  • go seahawks indeed.  i’ll be rooting for them on the east.

  • I was watching “girls next door” and I thought of you.  :)   Miss you Gracie!

  • You should’ve took a pic of you in the jersey! :]

  • i saw that episode too.. must visit denmark one of these days.. but that singapore woman with 300 pairs of shoes and still unhappy.. crazy woman..

  • that’s very interesting.  sad i missed it

  • I took a sociology class a couple of years ago? and the professor was married to a man from Denmark.  She raved about how great it was there ^__^.  as for the salary, it’s pretty different for each career, but you get taxed more if you make more and if you make less, you just get a lot of breaks, but the people don’t mind, which was mind boggling because here so many people get upset at a tiny tax increase…  Also, they consider a car a luxury item and tax it to be almost double it’s value, so most people can’t afford cars (same with paper plates and cups, I thought that was pretty interesting:))  oh! and they’ve also developed a way not to be dependent on oil, which is pretty amazing!  She said that it’s the closest a society came to socialism without a dictator :) when she said that I wondered if it was the closest to how people lived during the Acts days :)   It was one of the most interesting classes I’ve taken… but it’s seems like it works better for smaller countries… She’s been working on moving there for the last 4 years, I guess it’s pretty tough to get citizenship there.

  • we watched that too and it was really interesting! we should all move to denmark… (except we’re not blond blue-eyed… which they mentioned in the show)

  • i like this blog. i do believe it, though that it’d be very difficult for our seattle bubble to embrace that ‘happiness’ mentality.  anyway, looking forward to see you and hun soon! =D

  • of course SM did .. good ol’ tripod and timer does a good job.
