  • We just got back from a great trip to DC and NYC!  The highlights of the trip consisted of shooting an engagement session, sightseeing, and LOTS of eating w/friends [see Hun’s site for images].

There was a moment in my life when I was thinking of living in the East Coast [probably NY], but every time I visit [3 times now] I appreciate Seattle more and more.  For those who currently reside in the East Coast, PLEASE don’t take any offense – I’m just stating MY personal preference and experience.  I’ve also lived in 4 different states, so I’m not being partial only to Seattle.  There are definitely great things about the East Coast, but here are my top 10 reasons for why I love Seattle [in no particular order]:

    1.  Our parents live here.

    2.  Even though it rains, the weather here provides more comfortableness to play sports.

    3.  General cost of living is reasonable.

    4.  Customer service isn’t the best, but compared to the East Coast, it’s spectacular.  Just one of the many examples – I went to order a drink at a café, but they gave me the run around b/c they didn’t want to make any drinks [they straight up told me that they didn't feel like making drinks].  What in the world?

    5.  Cleaner air, cleaner water.

    6.  Honking is not one of the constant noises you hear everywhere [unless you drive really bad].

    7.  No humidity.  The first time I visited NYC was in the summer, and when we started off the day and stepped out of our hotel, we literally felt like we needed to take another shower.

    8.  Traffic isn’t the best, but it doesn’t take almost half the day to get to one place.

    9.  Beautiful scenery almost anywhere you look.

    10. No Starbucks can make as great a cup as in Seattle.

I think I’m going to make an ‘I heart Seattle’ shirt since there are enough ‘I heart NY’ shirts out there.  :)   Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy visiting.

  • Grace! i totally feel you about home here in Seattle, nothing compares to the natural beauty, just driving over the 520 bridge is amazing. waaay too much concrete in d.c., cool to visit, but visit only, shhh dont tell anyone about home in Seattle i think the East Coast thinks it sucks, so let em keep thinking that…pj

  • Make me an “I heart Seattle” t-shirt as well! I love it here.

  • yay i like it here too. though i haven’t been to the east coast…haha

  • Seattle has the Seahawks who will smash on the Giants and the Jets anyday. Seattle has uhh…JACK IN THE BOX! YEA! THEIR AINT NO JACK IN THE BOX BACK IN THE NYC!

  • (Re: #4) The sad thing is, when we go to NYC or DC, we always comment on how much better the service is and how much nicer the people are than in Philly.  Grace, I will take two of the shirts!

  • i felt the exact same way when i went a few years ago.

  • Grace, you are too cute!

  • omgoodness! i know. i had to cover my eyes when we rode the taxi… they are fearless. good thing shinhee unni drives well, her car was the only one i felt safe in xP

  • i looooove seattle, too. mm… dick’s.. and i love sushi… mm…. I really think Seattle is amazing.. I’ve never been to another city where local farmers bring by organic produce for barely anything. And it’s GOOD too!! mm…. Seattle… good…

  • 11. Better, affordable seafood

    12. More holistic lifestyle – all work and no play makes jack a dull boy

    13. More diverse – ethnic groups mix better

    14. Ah the Northwest – cleaner air, water, trees

    15. Less burnout

  • oh yes. seattle is the best!  (though i love visiting other places too–just because i know that i’m coming back home).  :)

  • hey grace! are you serious you worked in customer service since you were 14??? i thought that was illegal?? interesting….

  • glad to hear you made it safely back! the pictures are awesome!

  • theyre calling me a b**** cuz.. there was so reason.. i think its just cuz they were bored.. but whatever.. ttyl grace

  • aw thanks for reminding me of my identity in christ =] hehe im glad that i have a sister like you to talk to =]

  • not to break everyone’s rah rah rah for seattle but here are some counterpoints. reasons why nyc is better:

    1. the metropolitan museum of art
    2. central park
    3. the guggenheim
    4. MOMA
    5. the whitney museum
    6. who said seattle is more diverse?? seattle has asians and caucasians. come on now. :) just walk through flushing and see how many languages you hear in 10 minutes. where else can you walk into a deli run by a pakistani man who can straightaway know that I’m korean and not japanese or chinese and then after my order say something like, “yes yes i know you’re in a rush and you want your sandwich ‘bahlee, bahlee’?
    7. food – nuff said. keep your pan-asian-fusion-mishmash. also things are open 24 hours. the korean food alone (although you may have to venture to jersey nowadays to get the best)is reason enough to go.
    9. this little thing called broadway
    10. traffic is awful during rush hour. but you can’t beat the subway.
    11. soho, greenwich village, chelsea, little italy, chinatown
    12. energy and passion. laid-back seattle is lacking in both IMHO.

but seattle does have the perfection conditions for my two favorite things. ultimate and snowboarding. so here i stay. for now.
