Bad Ad
“Life’s short. Get divorced” is what a lawyer advertises on a huge billboard.
When I saw that on the news last night, I was upset. The lawyer said that she was targeting people who were already considering divorce. But that’s no excuse for her to encourage it for her own gain.
It’s no secret [at least to the ones that are married] that marriage is hard and takes a lot of work. No marriage is perfect. But divorce is not the answer [unless it involves adultery or abuse]. Sometimes divorce causes even more long-term issues. I’m not looking down on anyone who has gone through or is currently going through one; it happens. I just wish it didn’t. And I wish that lawyer would take her billboard down.
On a positive note about marriage . . . we chose this reading for our wedding, and I couldn’t put it any better than this.
“What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined for life -
to strengthen each other in all labor,
to rest on each other in all sorrow,
to minister to each other in all pain,
and to be with each other in silent, unspeakable memories.”
George Eliot

as uncle ben once told peter parker… ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ – such is the power of incfluence and persuasion… advertising can be so destructive when not used properly…
lawyers…
I was watching the news about that - I was horrified when I saw the billboard. I hope they take it down soon.
lovely quote and quiet touching image to go with. thanks for sharing your thoughts.
AMEN SISTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(hey now.. not all the lawyers are stinky! or at least us to-be ones. ^^)
yeah… society is definitely getting worse these days… ppl now think that divorces and abortions are okay and they’ve accepted this as a part of their lifestyle. what they don’t realize is that there are so many blessings that comes from a family that sticks together and promotes unity. sigh…
very sad reflection on society.
what you do reminds people of the oath they took to God and to each other.
i know, isn’t it sad? but i think you are doing your part: first by posting entries such as this, and second- by taking beautiful pics of engaged & married couples, to capture their love through photography. may all those who come in contact with you stay together and build strong godly marriages.
I saw that story too. What a dumb lady. The things people will do for advertisement.
it is sad…
There is such a lack of role models when it comes to healthy strong marriages…no wonder people struggle so much.
I just heard today it has been proven a healthy marriage prevents many health problems, serious illnesses and diseases… although yes, there is a flip side….unfortunately..
it should be saying:
Life is short. Stay Married.
way to question pop culture, way to stand for the truth, sista!
